Very Rare Royal Doulton ‘Glamis Thistle’ Square Bone China Handpainted Teapot - Signed P. Curnis, 1938

A true master of their craft, English-borne company Royal Doulton has been crafting beautiful fine bone china since the mid-1800’s. (Although, it should be mentioned that the first Doulton family member, John Doulton, started investing in lottery companies as early as 1815.)

By the year 1937, the company was practically a household name - certainly when it came to tea sets and other fine porcelain products. It was in 1937 that the company introduced the ‘Glamis Thistle’ pattern to the world, surely not knowing just how popular and well loved this pattern line would be! The company didn’t cease making ‘Glamis Thistle’ patterned pieces until the year 1961.

Now, over 200 years since its investment based inception, the ‘Glamis Thistle’ pattern has become more & more scarce across the world. One of the scarcest and most difficult to find pieces is the one shown on this very listing. The square teapot - which is only vaguely squared, but certainly can be considered square when compared with its very spherical teapot counterparts - is exceedingly rare. Even more rare than the teapot itself is finding one that has the lid still in tact. This one was made in 1938, hand painted & then signed by P. Curnow.

The teapot is in superb vintage/antique condition. There are no chips, no damages, or visible imperfections of any kind. The lid is fully intact and one could use this teapot today, should they want to. Lastly, due to the item’s rarity and being highly sought after, packaging for the item will be what some may call “overboard,” but we’d rather be safe than sorry! We want to ensure this package arrives straight to your hands, unblemished and intact!
